Many genres of TV shows use the technique of multi-camera,
the use of more than one camera in order to capture everything that is
happening within the scenes which are usually in fixed or near fixed positions.
These TV shows use this technique because of two reasons. One main reason in
which they use multi-camera when filming their show is for the aesthetic
reason, having more than one camera allows them to capture every scene which is
happening throughout the show it allows them to have different angles and shots
in order to portray and convey certain feelings and emotions and creates an
atmosphere for the audience, it helps to communicate to the audience how the
person is feeling within the scene
through the show they use this to make scenes look more exciting dramatic and
more appealing to the audience which engages and sustains their interest. The second reason for why certain TV shows
like to use multi camera techniques to film is for the practical reasons, they need
the use of multiple cameras in order to be able cover every piece of action
that is happening in order to keep the audience’s attention to the action which
is taking place within the TV shows mostly which are live channels and live sports channels to keep the viewers attention through out the whole of which ever show is being shown either pre filmed or filmed live.
Live Sports
Live programmes and or channels use this multi camera technique
when filming the action happening throughout. Sports live channels usually have
lots of scenes which are generally very fast paced which need to be covered at
every angle showing the audience every element and excitement of what is
happening multi camera technique helps build tension and suspense within the
action and addresses the style of mode within the programmes it creates a
specific atmosphere in which they are going for towards the audience excitement,
tension and suspense. For example Belator MMA live fights have a lot of action taking place during the fight the action changes quickly and so needs to be covered at every angle we can see this from 2:03 2:06 and 2:09 of the video where the camera changes and switches position and angle in order to capture every scene and every angle of the fight taking place that is taking place as the fight is fast paced and the elements are changing quickly this helps to maintain the viewing pleasure of the audience. This also allows the audience to be able to see every element of the fight the shots are quick fast paced and exciting which helps maintain the audiences attention and increases their viewing pleasure. At 1:40 seconds the camera is placed at a high angle getting both fighters in it is showing the main action taking place trying to keep the camera on the fighters and the action to maintain the viewers attention, this high shot creates an intense and tension filled atmosphere through what happens during the fight at 1:50 of the fight one of the fighters gets hit to the ground during the opening seconds of the fight which creates an exciting tension filled atmosphere it keeps the audience in suspense with whether or not the fight has ended at this time of the fight we can see and hear the audiences excitement and tension increase substantially, it fills them with suspense and maintains their interest as there is a lot of fast paced high tension shots taking place. These shots make the the audience feel a sense of excitement and suspense which builds on the atmosphere that MMA want to be created as exciting highly tension filled and serious which helps with gaining and sustaining the audiences attention.
Talent shows
Talent shows integrate the use of multi camera within their production, within talent shows there are lots of things that need to be captured slightly less than live sport but still quite a bit of action which can only be captured through multi camera. Talent shows use multi camera to engage with the audience it allows the audience to see what is happening through different angles and perspectives and to see how people are feeling and allows them to establish what the atmosphere is of the room. In Britain's got talent they use the use of multi camera techniques, there are a range of cameras capturing every action and also peoples reactions to address the mode of address in which the show is using. at 0:07 of the video the camera turns to one of the judges which gives the audience a small insight to what the atmosphere is going to be like at this point the atmosphere is quite lively and engaging and interesting for the audience this is shown through the reaction of both the judges and the audience at 0:12 we can see a small shot the audiences reaction to the contestant this gives the viewer of the perspective from another point. The shot at 2:19 allows the audience to see the performance from another perspective as well as view the reaction of the audience as well as the judges which adds to the excitement and atmosphere the range of shots make it look exciting and fast paced which allows the show to maintain the viewers excitement throughout the show. multi camera allows talent shows to gain the reaction from the audience as well as the judges which helps to create an atmosphere as well as establishes a mode of address as exciting and fast paced which grabs the audiences and viewers attention. Another reason for why live Talent shows use multi camera is that it is live by shooting live with multi camera they reduce the amount of time as there is no editing required as it is all done live and filmed with a range of cameras covering every angle and aspect of the talent show and the action taking place.

Concerts
Concerts use multi camera techniques in filming their shots to cover everything that is happening at that specific time, the cameras are placed at different angles in order to capture the feeling and reaction of the crowd and of what is happening. The cameras help to establish the location as well as the mode of address for a specific type of concert which is taking place. at 0:02 seconds of the video the camera is placed at a high angle and is lowly lit this shot type is known as the establishing shot and helps to establish the location of the concert it also captures some of the audiences feelings and emotions during the opening which helps to set the mode of address which in this case is exciting and intense. The cameras switch from shot to shot showing a range of things happening whilst also capturing the audiences reaction, for example at 0:21 to 0:38 there is a slow pan getting gradually closer to the singer this builds up suspense for the audience and creates and exciting and suspense filled atmosphere which keeps the viewers attention and interest. The use of cameras in this concert help show how people are feeling when the singer begins singing at 1:07 of the video the camera shortly after pans to the audience and shows their reaction and how they are feeling and allows the viewer to see every aspect of the concert as if they were actually there themselves watching it the shots are slow paced slow pans and it is lowly lit in the hall the slow pans of the camera on to the artist as well as the audience make the artist look sophisticated and classy towards the audience it creates a calm exciting and suspense filled atmosphere which keeps the audiences attention focused and sustained throughout the whole piece of action throughout the whole concert.
Game shows
Game shows use the technique of multi camera when filming the game show, they have a range of different cameras at places and different angles of the set in the studio in order to capture every shot and angle of the show, this would be difficult to capture with the use of single camera. At the beginning of the game show we can see a establishing shot of the studio at 0:40 seconds this gives the audience a look at the studio and shows perhaps what the mode of address will be. The lighting is low around the cube this gives a sense of suspense and tension for the audience the camera allows the audience and viewer to capture the reaction of the audience and the participants which helps to highlight the feeling within the studio of tension at 3:17 after he answer the camera pans and goes to the contestants family and has a close ups of their faces and their reactions they have the look of suspense on their faces which builds tension with the audience and viewer at home with shots back to the contestant then to an overhead shot with suspenseful music in the back to build tension and to grab the audiences attention and sustain it, the camera has an overhead shot to show the game and to build suspense to see if he is correct at 4:00 the camera has a low angle of his foot which highlights the one he has chosen to go for the camera then pans then again pans to the audience and the family for their reactions the camera shot goes to above the cube and stays there slowly getting closer to build suspense, we can also gain how the contestant is feeling from the camera shots and angles, the shot at 4:28 in the video shows a close up of his face with a smaller version of the game beside him to give a view of how he sees it as well as to build tension for the viewers and the audience within the studio at that particular game. Another reason for why the game show the cube uses multi camera is in order to capture everything that is happening game shows are usually very fast paced with many things happening at once they need to capture everything which is happening and every angle of the action. the camera shows all the games and captures what is happening outside as well as inside of the cube from every angle allowing the viewer to see everything happening within the show and from different perspectives this helps to strengthen and highlight the mode of address as being highly suspenseful tension filled serious and very dramatic, we can see this at 4:24 into the video the studio is quiet and the family and audience are both in suspense for the contestants as well as the viewer who is watching the show at home. these all make it look appealing to the audience and helps to create an atmosphere as well as grab and sustain their interest and attention throughout.

Top Gear uses multi camera techniques to film the action that follows throughout the whole of the show top gear usually consists of challenges and races and test drives done by the crew which usually have lots of areas and angles which need to be covered from everyone's prospective which needs to be filmed which would be near impossible to capture through the use of single camera techniques as their is a lot happening within a short period of time which makes it necessary for this show to use the multi camera techniques. At 7:06 we can see one of the presenters doing a test drive of a new car through the test drives we can see many different angles shots and filters used in order to make it look visually appealing, the show uses lots of different angles from including many close ups of the car and different elements of the car they cut to different angles of the car every 2 to 3 seconds from angle to angle shot to shot of each element of the car to connect with the audience and show them the whole element of the show as well as the car. The cameras helps to show how people are feeling throughout the show and action being filmed, the camera within the car picks up on how the presenter feels whilst driving the car through his reaction and facial expressions as well as this when the cameras enter the studio after the test drive the camera picks up on the rest of the presenters as well as the some shots of the audience to show how their feeling at that particular moment. at 9:52 the camera picks up on the reaction of the presenter in the car the camera shows that he is feeling excited and happy to be driving the car to the audience which makes the show look more visually appealing to the audience which also highlights both the atmosphere and mode of address of the show as exciting action packed and interesting for the viewers in order to grab and maintain their interest.

The camera cuts in between the cast to get wide angles to get everyone in the shot to gain how everyone is feeling and to gain their reaction the cameras do not stay in one set place but have quick shots from different angles in order to capture everyone to see what their doing saying and their facial reactions the show mostly consist of close ups of their faces to capture how their feeling.
